Around each holiday season, I get on a purging kick. I go through my closet. I go through every drawer to my name. What do I need? What will I miss?
Holding space with unnecessary things is, in essence, remaining in life's dangerous comfort zone. There's a good chance that what we remove will not be missed.
We hold on to things because they bring us comfort, associating with moments in our past. Letting go of these things can cause guilt, but it's important to remember we aren't throwing away the memory, rather the thing that is holding space in our closet.
We can always keep. But often times we need to remove the extraneous out of our lives, creating space for the present, breeding both creativity and growth.
